A variety of factors can affect a snowplow blade’s long-term performance, making it difficult for an agency to determine which blades are the most cost-effective overall. By developing a field test protocol and cost-benefit analysis methodology, the new research will make it easier for Clear Roads agencies to evaluate and compare blades in the future using the same standard procedures used in this project.
A review of the state of the practice regarding snowplow blade assessments in the country revealed the range of variables that may impact a blade’s performance and life span. The results of the review were integrated with findings from field and lab testing to develop a guide that will assist agencies in evaluating blade choices.
The Quick Reference Guide developed in this project summarizes the features and specifications of each blade along with key field test results.
